Jub Jub arrested following e-hailing shooting

In Brief: Television host and rapper Molemo "Jub Jub" Maarohanye has been arrested in Edenvale after allegedly kidnapping and firing a gun at an e-hailing driver during a romantic dispute.

Television presenter and musician Molemo “Jub Jub” Maarohanye has been detained by law enforcement following a violent altercation involving an e-hailing driver on the East Rand.

According to an eNCA broadcast, 45-year-old media figure was apprehended on Sunday morning after a confrontation escalated into an alleged kidnapping and shooting incident. The South African Police Service confirmed the arrest on a sequence of criminal charges, including kidnapping, the unlawful discharge of a firearm in a public space, and defeating the ends of justice.

The conflict reportedly unfolded at a residential property in Edenvale after an e-hailing driver completed a trip to drop off a female passenger. The suspect aggressively confronted the motorist upon his arrival at the premises. The driver was accused of being involved in an illicit romantic relationship with the suspect’s girlfriend, prompting an immediate escalation from the media personality.

According to the police statement, the suspect subsequently forced the e-hailing driver into his vehicle, actively preventing him from leaving the property or exiting the vehicle. The national police spokesperson, Athlenda Mathe, stated: “During the incident, the suspect reportedly discharged a firearm in the direction of the driver.” The motorist managed to escape the scene completely unharmed and drove to a nearby police station to formally report the assault, allowing officers to deploy swiftly and secure the arrest.

Maarohanye is currently being held in police custody and is scheduled to make his initial appearance regarding the fresh criminal charges before the Germiston magistrate’s court on Monday morning.
